How Long Have I
started playing the recorder at the age of 8 and two years later my father
bought me a ”real” flute and I took lessons for quite a few
years. I never expected to be playing the recorder ever
again in my life! I did when I joined Flamborough Head in 2001.

I
started playing the flute in an instrumental band in 1982 (together with
Edo, and my brother Menno, Odyssice). Later on, when we decided to play
covers I also became the
singer in that band. (Although I had been singing along records for as
long as I can remember, this was the real thing!) After that, I sang in a
melodic rock band which wrote its own material. When that band split up I
became the lead-vocalist in a jazz rock/fusion band. At the same time I
sang and played flute and tin whistle in a folk band. After a couple of
years I started singing in a
new rock cover band which I did for about ten years. Occasionally I
perform with an acoustic guitar player/singer with whom I also recorded a
demo. The songs we play could be classified as folk. Musical

When
I was young I listened to Carole King, Carly Simon, Joni Mitchell, Joan
Armatrading and The Shirts (and of course many other bands and singers) but
I don’t know if they have influenced me in any way. Some singers that I
like very much at this moment are Mary Black, Annie Haslam, Eva Cassidy
and Tori Amos, Amanda Marshall. It seems that I have always preferred to
listen to female singers. Favourite

As
all my recorders and flute were made by Yamaha, I suppose that is my
favourite brand.
