Year Of Birth :

1959

For How Long Have You been Making Music?

When I was 17 years old I bought my first drum kit. It was a Pearl.

Activities before Flamborough Head :

In 1978 I started my first real band with a couple of friends and colleagues. The name of the band was: Endless Road (a song of the Dutch band ‘Focus’). In that period I met Marcel (he played the guitar) and we played together for several years. In 1984 I moved to the east of Holland. There I met André Cents. Together with him, Marcel and a female singer we started the rock band “Stiffener”. When I moved to Bakkeveen in 1989,  I was looking for a new band. In 1991 I met Edo and he made progressive music with two brothers (on the first floor). With those guys we started  making our own progressive music. We found a singer (Siebe Rein Schaaf) and a bass player (yes.. there he was again…)  Marcel Derix.

In 1993 the two ‘Wolff” brothers quit and we asked André Cents to play the guitar. At that moment we started Flamborough Head.

Musical Influences :

- Jeff Porcaro (Toto)

- Neil Peart (Rush)

- Chris Slade (Manfred Mann’s Earth Band, AC/DC, Asia)

- Steve Gadd

- Ton Dijkman (a.o. Marco Borsato)

- Terry Bozzio (Frank Zappa, U.K.)

- Doane Perry  (Jethro Tull)

- Nick d’Virgilio (Spock’s Beard)

- Carl Palmer (E.L.P.)

- Pierre v.d. Linden (Brainbox, Focus).

Favourite Instrument :

I played a lot of drum kits (Pearl, Premier, Sonor, Trak). When I visited a concert of Spock’s Beard in 1998 in Utrecht, I heard  Nick d’Virgilio play a beautiful Mapex Orion for the first time. I was very impressed so I started looking for the same drum kit. In 1999 I found  a drummer on the Internet who sold his Mapex Orion. It was the drummer of the Dutch Metal band The Gathering (Hans Rutten). I bought his beautiful Mapex Orion. For me this is the most beautiful kit I ever had. It is a 7- piece kit with Maple shells. Really very good. The Cymbals I have are K & Avedis , Zildjian,Sabian and Ufip. The K and Avedis Zildjians are very beautiful.
